I had SIBO twice so that I know how you feel undiagnosed for a prolonged time. Which is worse heartburn or SIBO? I will choose the SIBO. Just feel awful and not go away. Here I am to help you to understand what it is and the treatment if you are interested in learning how to get rid of them and most importantly to avoid the reoccurrence. I have seen the patient after a patient who had done very expensive antibiotics, mostly prescribed for IBS drug, for 3 weeks, SIBO came back within 6 months and it was worse than before. You really need the timeline for what you should be doing. Getting rid of SIBO, H.Pylori infection, GERD, IBS, IBD, and Candida fungus overgrowth are not short-term but the long-term strategies are needed to avoid their return!
SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) is often the hidden, often the root cause of gut disorders which manifest as so many physical and mental problems and often ignored by mainstream medicine. One big take-home message here for people “might have” SIBO is avoiding eating fermented foods, high fiber foods, and high potency probiotics! You are throwing gasoline to the fire so to speak.
People get SIBO from upstream (from the bad bugs moved UP from Large Intestine) or downstream (from H.Pylori bacterial infection moved into the small intestine). Small Intestine supposes to be a very sterile place. This is the organ the crucial macro and micronutrients, as well as the trace minerals like Chromium, are dripped into the bloodstream. Not the place to have bacterias! Why the upstream problem occurs? The valve between the large intestine to small intestines starts malfunctioning and “STAY” open 24/7 so that bacterias in Large Intestine start to grow in the wrong place (in Small Intestine) and start having a big party 24/7)
If you would like to grow vegetables in the summer, what do you do? You clean up the garden by weeding, turn over the soil, then plant the seeds with fertilizer. Clean up the digestive system is just like that. You need to clean up the mess first then start feeding good stuff. Make sense to you? No Kombucha, flax seeds, 100 billion probiotics if you have SIBO! SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) often the hidden, root cause of gut disorders which causes so many physical and mental problems. If your doctor order the breath test for SIBO and the result came back positive, the chances are you will get a prescription called “Rifaximin” antibiotic. Make sure this medication is covered by your insurance (very expensive drug manufactured in Canada).
I suggest for you to getting this free app “Cara” on your phone if you have an iPhone to trace the trigger (possibly food) and the quality of the stool, gas, bloating, etc… This is an excellent app to give you great information. I will love to see a journal like this if my patients show me before their treatment.

FODMAP is an acronym for “Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, And Polyols.”
Examples of high FODMAP foods include Fermentable:
Oligosaccharides: Jerusalem artichoke, cabbage, onion and garlic
Disaccharides: Cow or goat milk.
Monosaccharides: Apples, peaches, mangos, and pears.
Polyols: Avocados, apricots, prunes, snow peas, and xylitol.
