About Potassium

Do you know the signs and symptoms of potassium deficiency? Fatigue, muscle weakness, stomach pain etc… so common symptoms you might be ignoring. Potassium is required 5 times more than sodium intake which most of Americans eat a lot from high sodium diet – for example a piece of whole wheat bread is loaded with sodium and sugar. Tomato ketchup is another example. Think many things you like, crave for contain high amount of sodium which means you are definitely LOW in potassium. You think “I should eat more banana!” Yes, banana contains potassium but also high in fructose sugar. My suggestion is to increase the amount of the following green vegetables on your diet – Swiss Chard, Avocado, Spinach, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Celery and Romaine lettuce. Easy enough? A couple things to remember – Avocado goes with your morning smoothie with flax and hemp seeds (grinder) mix. Avocado is loaded with high (good) fat. This is the great smoothie (do NOT take soy protein with it) to go especially if you are constipated. Spinach is high in oxaliac acid if you ate raw. Make sure you cook or steam to get the whole advantage of it. Celery – is high in tryptophan. If you are suffering from restless sleep, you may consider munching celery stick with almond butter (almond is high in Magnesium. Mg relax muscles and mind).
